History & Mission

The Peoples Bank was formed in 1920 in rural Southwest Virginia to serve the farming and mining communities that surround the area.  From its inception, the bank has harbored a strong dedication to running a sound financial institution committed to participating in the vitality of its service area.  The Great Depression, World War II, the Korean, Vietnam and Gulf Wars, the oil embargo of the 1970's, and the 9/11 attacks are some of the major perilous events that The Peoples Bank has experienced.  Through these times, the bank has remained a pillar of strength for the communities it serves.

The bank's mission for the future remains much the same: to be a strong and stable institution that provides the economic fuel for growth in tranquil or trying times.  The Board of Directors, management and employees of the bank are fervently committed to world class quality in both products and services for its constituents. From rapid responses to impeccable customer attention, The Peoples Bank will always sustain a focus on the communities which it serves that surpasses your expectations.

NOTICE OF CHANGES IN TEMPORARY FDIC INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR TRANSACTION ACCOUNTS

All funds in a "noninterest-bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the Federal deposit Insurance Corporation from December 31, 2010, through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is in addition to, and separate from, the coverage of at least $250,000 available to depositors under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.

The term "noninterest-bearing transaction account" includes a traditional checking account or demand deposit account on which the insured depository institution pays no interest. It also includes Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts ("IOLTAs"). It does not include other accounts, such as traditional checking or demand deposit accounts that may earn interest, NOW accounts, and money-market deposit accounts.
